The news is even worse now. The bust of Gen. Graham in the Jardines del General Graham in nearby Chiclana has been stolen.

It looks like it was simply unscrewed. I'd like to unscrew the grubby hands of the thieves.

The bronze plaque from the Barrosa monument hasn't yet been replaced. Luckily the original is in the Chiclana museum.

Sarah, this is absolutely appalling news, one can only hope that these vandals can be caught and punished, and the memorials repaired.

The good news is that the plaque on the Barrosa bicentennial monument has been replaced. It feels like metal but I'm told it's not bronze. The original is in the Chiclana Municipal Museum.

There is no sign on the street now that indicates a monument is at the top of the path up.

Unfortunately, General Graham's bust has not yet been replaced.

I totally agree.

It seems there is a new wave of thefts (according to me, because railway copper lines are better protected).
There have been many thefts lately in Belgium and eastern France, mostly WW1.
The most outrageous being the theft of the bronze nameplates in a WW1 Belgian cemetary, making all the graves nameless...

The worst thing is that there is no organism with the money to replace these (+/- 150.000 EUR).
An incomplete summary here : http://napoleon-monuments.eu/MONUMENTSD ... /index.htm

If everything goes well, next week, we shall replace the eagle opposite la Haie-Sainte.
The new one will be in resin.
