''Lodewijk Napoleon, a tragic ruler'' The Story of Louis Napoleon, first King of Holland 1778-1846.
An exhibition until 5 March 2017 at the Old Manor Amelisweerd will take an in-depth look at its former resident, Louis Napoleon (1778-1846), the first King of Holland. Set on the Dutch throne by his brother Napoleon I, Louis adopted the Dutch form of his name, "Lodewijk I" and was well-liked by his subjects, who appreciated his compassion and devotion, nicknaming him “Louis the Good".

He was forced to abdicate by his brother in 1810 and a week later Holland was annexed to France. The exhibition combines historic artworks with paintings created especially for the exhibition by the contemporary artist Armando.

Museum Oud Amelisweerd, Koningslaan 9, 3981 HD Bunnik, Netherlands. That's near Utrecht. Closed Monday
